Kiteboarding, kitesurfing, or whatever you want to call it, is a fast growing extreme sport that combines aspects of surfing, wakeboarding, windsurfing, paragliding, and more. Over the years, the sport has developed and evolved from attaching kites to canoes, skis, and iceskates in the 1980s, to strapping kite foils to windsurfing boards in 1990s. Soon after, specialized kites and boards were developed and the sport of Kiteboarding was born! In the sport’s short history, incredible advancements in technology have been made and each year better, lighter, more durable, and more reliable kiteboards, kites, and other kiteboarding gear have been made.
From the creators of TEN4 and Metropolis comes ACL Productions latest installment in progressive kiteboarding videos. This highly anticipated release, AutoFocus, documents what happens when you combine wind, raw talent and the most exclusive kiteboarding destinations in the world. AutoFocus brings together seven of the most talented, style driven and highly respected wakestyle riders in the industry and drops them into the largest most elaborate conglomeration of sliders, kickers and rails to date.
The ACL crew documented and captured epic images of these riders pushing themselves to new levels, and ultimately, progressing the sport of kiteboarding to a legitimizing new level. AutoFocus was shot on location in Antigua, Dominican Republic, Coche Island Venezuela and features the riding of Andre Phillip, Mauricio Abreu, Bertrand Fleury, Moe Goold, Jason Slezak, Jason Stone, and Stav Niarchos.
Also featured is tons of bonus footage including the making of AutoFocus, how to build sliders, rider interviews, out-takes, still photos, behind the scenes with the riders, insane wipeouts and much more! Enjoy the progression.
Tronolone Production's sequel to their popular DVD Unhooked. And as one should always strive to improve on the original, Tonolone does not disappoint. Buster Tronolone consolidated all the best of his footage from his travels around the world over the past year. The result, Unhooked 2, is a great video that has all varieties of riding - giant waves complete with several psychos pulling into death barrels and toying with shorebreak itching to crush peoples spines, crazy slider park action, and all the rest of your state-of-the-art kiting, i.e. powered handlpass moves, kite loops, crashing, etc.
Editing is clean with some rider feature sections like in their other popular DVD Awake, but also a mixture of great travel and riding style features. All in all a great mix of riding and conditions. Super clean water footage and a great soundtrack make this DVD solid. And minimal lifestyle footage will please the hardcore viewer.
Some featured riders include Andre Phillip, Ben Wilson, Jason Stone, Moehau Gould, Jason Slezak, Jeff Tobias, and many more.

Ben Wilson is regarded as one of the most influential wave riders in the world. This film is focused on his surf style approach to the waves, not comparing it to surfing, but showing it as an extension by using the kite to whip him in, like a jet ski would a surfer, then killing the power of the kite and using the power of the wave to ride the wave. The entire movie is unstrapped and shot all around the world. Also featuring Mauricio Abre, Moe Goould, Joel Becus, Jeff Tobias, Ryland Blakeny and Josh Mulcoy.

This is the fifth and final DVD in Real's instructional series, and this one is a bit different. Instead of a full-blown instructional you get the best of both worlds. On side one, if you will, you get all the crazy action that went down during this year's Real Kiteboarding Triple 'S' invitational contest. And I use the word 'contest' loosely. Instead it's more like a week-long excuse to cut loose and take kiteboarding to the next level. SSS stands for Surf, Slicks, and Sliders, with the event taking advantage of a flexible format, riding the sliders, or flat water moves in the slick, or surf sessions (with or without a kite), and even skateboarding as conditions warranted. The motto of the event became, "The world is not ready.", as the riding was off the scale. Some of this year's invitees included Andy Hurdman, Jason Slezak, Andre Phillip, Davey Blair, Greg Norman, Suzi Mai, Moehao Goold, Shannon Best, Sam Bell, Thomas Kogut, Jon Modica, Dimitri Maramenides, Aimee Rabee, and Evan Netsch. Convinced yet?
Well, if you're not, let's talk about the back-side of the DVD. It is an instructional series, after all, and all the riders give their tips on handling a multitude of high-end kiteboarding maneuvers. Subjects include, getting better pop for powered flat-water moves, tips for unhooked riding, handlepasses, kite loops, board-offs, riding blind, and hitting sliders. And after all that there's an nice bonus section of the unbelieveable surf kiting that went down during hurricane Florence in late summer in Cape Hatteras. Quite an exclamation point to the end of the 5 DVD series.
Kiting in the Surf, by Real Kiteboarding: Beginning through Advanced Ocean Riding
Welcome to the fourth installment in the5 DVD instructional series from Real Kiteboarding - the largest lesson center in the world. All five DVDs have won Telly Awards for outstanding acheivement in independent video production. The first DVD, Zero to Hero took you from rank beginner to the self-sufficient riding level. Then, Evolution improved your on-the-water riding with valuable and hard to find instruction on learning techniques, kite control, stance, and transitions. The third DVD is Joyride which transforms you into the kiteboarder you always envisioned you would be when you first picked up the sport, meaning you're now throwing down with all variations of jumping and aggressive riding. Next stop: the waves.
Real's Surf DVD is the first of it's kind in kiteboarding, an instructional video dedicated entirely to riding waves. Although it would seem the direction the sport has taken in the past year is decidedly surf oriented, particularly in the magazines, Real Kiteboarding has incorporated surf instruction into it's lesson programs for several years. Now they have openned the books from their highly touted 3 day Surf camp into this new DVD.
The main portion of the DVD is divided up into three chapters: Surf 101, Surf Skills, and Surf Sessions. Surf 101 is just what it sounds like, an introduction to all the issues you may face when first learning to get into the waves, including tides, currents, swell types, bottom types, wind and wave relationship and many other considerations that will ultimately affect your session.
Surf Skills teaches all the new skills that you will need, and how to modify some of your existing skills to be successful in the waves. Just a few of the topics covered are circuit training, heading out through the surf, absorbing whitewater, duck diving, kite power, turns, staying upwind, and troubleshooting and safety concerns.
Surf Sessions lays it all on the line - jumping off waves, turning on waves, surf style, staying on the face, kite looping, controlling the power, freestyle, aerials, and yes, even getting barrelled. And with all Real instructional DVDs there are massive bonus sections. These bonus sections ensure that you are not just getting kiteboarding instruction, but are also getting some of the more difficult to find information that advance your knowledge and comfort about being a kiteboarder. Always a favorite, is the Coaches Tips section, where the Real coaches tell of their trials and tribulations, and ultimately their successes, that have turned them into some of the most confident and respected riders around. Other bonus sections include Equipment for Ocean Riding (Yes, this video is bow kite enabled), and Keeping it Surfside, which discusses the importance of becoming familiar with and comfortable in the ocean.
The Surf DVD was filmed in the beautiful British Virgin Islands and will not only teach you how to successfully up your level in the surf, but will also open your eyes to the true worldwide potential of this sport.
Intermediate to advanced instruction by Real Kiteboarding
Welcome to the thrid installment in the 5 DVD instructional series from Real Kiteboarding - the largest lesson center in the world. The first DVD, Zero to Hero took you from rank beginner to the self-sufficient riding level. Then, Evolution improved your on-the-water riding with valuable and hard to find instruction on learning techniques, kite control, stance, and transitions. Now comes the good stuff - jumping.
Everyone loves to jump. It certainly is the main draw that gets people into kiteboarding in the first place. But before Joyride jumps into jumping, you'll reinforce techniques like proper stance, which in turn lead to doing more powerful turns, downlooping the kite, riding faster with more power, riding in control, and riding in a crowd - all things you'll need to know first before hucking your first successful 20 foot air.
In the jumping section you'll learn the mechanics of jumping, progressive edge (kind of teching out with that one but it's key), load and pop jumps, boosting jumps, air transitions, and, of course, troubleshooting. Then it's on to the tricks - boosting grabs, load and pop grabs, hooked in front and back rolls and spins, and an intro to unhooked tricks.
Finally, there's tips for your continued education in kiteboarding. Finally, that is, except for the huge bonus section. There's the Joyride stage Coaches Tips section, the sure to be popular Sleazy-J Grab Tutorial, Gear Tuning, BVI Action, etc., etc., etc.. No effort was spared in bringing on the bonus sections.
You'll notice the filming location for this DVD was moved from Cape Hatteras to the incredible British Virgin Islands. While Hatteras may be the easiest place in the world to learn to kiteboard, guaranteed you'll be booking a flight for points south next winter after keeping your learning curve vertical with Joyride. Keep your learning curve vertical with Joyride, and then Surf, the 4th DVD in the series.
Welcome to the second installment in the 5 DVD instructional series from Real Kiteboarding - the largest lesson center in the world. The first DVD, Zero to Hero took you from rank beginner to the self-sufficient riding level. Now you're on the water and are ready to step up and do some more serious riding. What may be the most unique aspect of Evolution is not the specific moves and techniques within kiteboarding it teaches you, but that it lays out the most effective way you should go about learning these things. Other DVDs probably wont teach you the specifics of circuit training, or doing downwinders, or how to practice your boardriding, but if you really want to learn quickly and correctly, pay attention to these early sections. Plan out your sessions and stick to your plan - that's the way to get to the next level safe and fast.
Evolution goes into detail about riding both ways - regular and switch, the stop, slide, heelside, and toeside transitions, sheeting and safety systems, riding stance, and finally, the holy grail of kiteboarding - riding upwind. And just like Zero to Hero, the bonus sections are extensive. There is an Evolution level Coaches Tips sections where all the Real coaches share their kiteboarding learning and teaching experiences, giving you several different perspectives. There's massive tech sections on both kites and boards, which will be very helpful as you get to the point in your riding where you can understand the differences in equipment. The kite tech section is especially helpful as it lays out the differences and similarities between 4-line, 5-line, and bow or SLE kites. It teaches you how each are rigged, tuned, and relaunched from the water. At the moment, Evolution is the only kiteboarding DVD that addresses and utilized the new bow kites.
Helpful graphics and every conceivable POV angle - trackingcam, helmetcam, overheadcam, barcam - is used to best demonstrate both proper, and improper techniques. Keep your learning curve vertical with Evolution.
From all the way back in the mid-90s, prime windsurfing days, some of the best videos were from Trow Vision Productions - films like Chapped and Surface Tension. Then Peter Trow took to kiting like a storm, becoming a pro rider and co-producing Strung Out with us, another winner. We're pleased to announce another great video - Soul Fly.
Join 2004 PKRA world champion Aaron Hadlow, female wave ripper Ammy Naff, pro surfer turned pro kiter Josh Mulcoy, filmmaker Peter Trow (of course), and others on a wave rich journey to the enchanted waters of the Caribbean, deep into dusty Baja, Mexio, and all along California's diverse coastline. Filmed in colorful 16mm film and professional digital video, Soul Fly captures the essence of wave kiting as well as a look into the progression of freestyle riding. Experience this intriguing ride into the wind, the waves, travel, and soul.
And if you know anything about Peter, you'll guess that there's a serious dose of hardcore waveriding action, epic down-the line perfection, and heavy Santa Cruz power. Peter is also a stickler for clean, well-composed cinematography, and searches untiringly for the perfect soundtrack to create a masterfully edited film that appeals to everyone, one reason why Peter doesn't pop films out every six months.
Reflecting Peter's surfing roots, Soul Fly is created with an old-time surf movie vein, but with the modern technical wizardry of kiteboarding today. Kiteboarding's current directional, wave oriented, style owes 100% hommage to Peter, who, by staying true to his roots, never relinquished his directional for either twin tip or wake style riding in his 6 years of kiteboarding. Combine that with the sport's youngest world champ, who can do anything on a kite, and Josh Mulcoy, the most stylish and pure surfing style kiteboarder today, and you've got a video that will headline your collection. A video with soul.
Volume One, Instructional Snowkiting DVD by Morten Gjerstad
Who better to make a great new (and sorely needed) snowkiting instructional video than the maker of the amazing snowkite DVDs like Entropy and Something Stronger - Morten Gjerstad. He is not only an accomplished filmmaker (using all high-definition footage) but also has access to the top riders in the world who are on the cutting edge of what is happening in snowkiting.
This is 2 hours of the most thorough introduction to snowkiting you can imagine. There are chapters on terminology, equipment, location and conditions, kite flying basics, using foil kites, using tube kites (each kite chapter includes information on setup, safety systems, launching and landing, relaunching, and even packing), riding basics (like edging, turning, and going upwind), back country riding, expedition kiting, kite repair, and basic jumping. This is definitely the complete course to becoming a safe and confident snowkiter. When volume 2 is released it will take off from the basic jump and go into all the trick types of jumps and many other specialized advanced snowkiting skills.
Tronolone mixes the perfect compliment of lifestyle and action footage in this World Tour highlight video:
• Witness all the covert opps from the 2004 PKRA World Domination Tour.
• Watch Aaron Hadlow lead the youth movement and dominate all enemy forces in his line of fire.
• See Cindy Mosey three-peat, taking home her third consecutive championship title.
•Realize that the most progressive freestyle kiteboarding on Earth is happening at PKRA (Professional Kite Riders Association) event locations featured in this DVD; Austria, Belgium, Cabarete, Germany, Fuerte Ventura, and Brazil.
There are different styles of kiteboarding, from freeride or freestyle, wave-riding, and even course and speed racing. The freeride kiteboarding style is pretty much the “anything goes” approach and is the most popular. Most kiteboards sold today are freeride boards with twin tips. The freestyle style of riding is focused on getting big air and doing airborne tricks. Smaller boards and kites with good hang times are used. The wave-riding kiteboarding style is closest to surfing since it is done in a location with a wave break, which is why the sport is often referred to as kitesurfing. This style most often uses a single-point directional board, sometimes without footstraps, and some even use a standard surfboard. The wakestyle style of kiteboarding is most similar to wakeboarding and is focused on tricks and aerials and uses boards with bindings to keep riders strapped in. There are also course racing and speed racing kiteboarding styles which involve speed, skill, and strategy. Specially designed directional race boards with longer fins are used with the goal of outperforming the other kiters to come in first place.
No matter which style of kiteboarding you are interested in, Kite-Line is your one stop shop for all of your kiteboarding needs.
