Although you might not be able to match Sam Light’s smooth, technical style, with the 2017 Slingshot Refraction Pro Kiteboard, at least you’ll have the same tool for success. Sam introduced the Refraction last year as his perfect solution for needing a competition-level freestyle board that he can use all over the world, in every condition he encounters (including cable parks).

The 2017 Slingshot Refraction Pro Kiteboard features aggressive rocker, stiff flex and a thick and super durable Dura-Glide base. NEW Carbon bedrock inserts: In 2017 you will notice lighter boards, a more continuous flex pattern and performance that is tuned precisely for each board’s design concept. You asked for weight reduction, better flex control and increased feel. You got it. Our engineers accomplished this by inventing new carbon-reinforced inserts, which will replace the Fastrack system on all 2017 boards. In testing, our team riders quickly noticed how solid the inserts are, hence the name Bedrock Carbon Inserts. The new inserts are a Slingshot exclusive and are designed to offer you a solid connection to a board that still needs to flex. They use the industry-standard M6 hardware and are reinforced with light-weight, high-strength carbon fiber. With this development, our engineers were able to define a new level of performance and durability in twin tip construction. The insert pull strength is increased by 30%, while the overall board weight is cut by 10%.

Base and rails: Slingshot base thicknesses are as follows: Refraction- .7mm DuraGlide base; Asylum- .4mm standard base; Misfit- .2mm standard base; Karolina Pro- .2mm standard base. All Slingshot twin tips are lined with a full urethane rail, which provides dampening and protects the board form impact. For 2017, we’ve been able to achieve a broader, more vibrant range of colors for our urethane for even more visual appeal.

NACA tech  laser channels: Precision laser-cut NACA Tech channels allow Slingshot to fine-tune each board in its lineup for specific performance characteristics. Channels improve water flow and board speed, grip and pop, edging and general performance and feel

Slingshot wood core construction: Every Slingshot kiteboard is hand built in the United States, in a small factory just down the road from company headquarters in Hood River. Boards are made from vertically laminated wood cores. This process utilizes the collective strength of the wood’s end grain and creates boards with unrivaled pop, rebound and flex characteristics. Nothing beats a wood core.

The 2017 Slingshot Glide is our dedicated light-wind board designed to get you out and riding, and having a blast doing it, while others sit on the beach waiting for the wind to come up. Staying true to the expression “Throw it don’t mow it,” the 2017 Slingshot Glide’s long, slender outline, block rail profile and mild rocker combine for a feel closer to a standard twin-tip than the barn door that many wider light wind boards resemble.

Offered in 149cm and 159cm lengths, the 2017 Slingshot Glide’s extra surface area will, as the name suggests, get you up and gliding across the water with significantly less wind than a standard twin tip.

You’ll love the 2017 Slingshot Glide if you frequent light-wind locations where you need a large-format board to get you out and riding and want to maintain the fun of a twin tip rather than switching to a surfboard.

    2017 Slingshot Glide Highlights

    • Dedicated light-wind session saver
    • Freestyle-friendly, surprisingly agile
    • Gets you riding while others watch and wait
    • Lively wood-core construction
    • Long, slender shape performs like a standard twin-tip

2017 Ride Engine Silver Elite Harness Technology

    Hard Shell Construction

Ride Engine pioneered the hard-shell harness concept and has refined it even further for 2017. The hard shell is ergonomically contoured to the shape and curves of a rider’s back. The shell serves several key functions. Most notably, it spreads load and forces from the kite evenly across the rider’s back and sides. Traditional soft harnesses compress, pinch and fold under pressure, but where they fail, Ride Engine excels.

    Percision Fit

In Ride Engine’s early days, harnesses were custom built, with shells shaped from molds taken from rider’s backs. These molds were saved, and they served as an invaluable tool in generating the precise shape today’s Armor Harnesses are based around. The result is an ergonomic, form-fitting harness that locks into the contours of your back exceptionally well.

    Lumbar Lock

The Armor Harness has a distinct kink vertically along the center of the shell. This feature, aptly named “Lumbar Lock,” is designed to fit into the center of the rider’s back. This serves two purposes- it provides ergonomic support that matches the shape of your body and it locks the harness into place and prevents it from shifting from side to side.

    Low Profile

The Armor’s hard shell provides superior back support. Because of this, the harness can be shorter vertically across the rider’s back. This low-profile fit improves rider mobility and range of motion as there is less harness to get in the way or restrict movement.

    Fusion Foam

Super soft foam conforms to the shape of your torso for ultimate comfort and hold. The foam is cushy enough that you don’t feel the hard shell from the inside. The idea is to feel the shell’s support but not the shell itself.

    Spreader Bar Options

Sliding rope: For surfing, freeriding and general hooked-in riding, the sliding rope spreader bar will literally change your kiteboarding experience. Your chicken loop connects directly to the rope and slides freely across the entire length of the spreader bar. With a standard hook, your harness twists and pulls from different angles depending on your body and kite position. The sliding rope system allows you to rotate your body freely, independent of your kite position, which in turn allows you to keep your harness locked-in and low where it is meant to be.

Fixed Hook: For freestyle riders or those who want the ability to unhook, a standard fixed hook spreader bar is also available. Changing between the two options takes about one minute. Riders who use the hook have given rave reviews about the Armor Harness, mainly for the harness’s low-profile, high support advantages. It allows aggressive riders to hold down more kite, ride harder and move more freely than any other harness on the market.

The Hex Core model is made from injection honeycomb core technology. This creates the super strong but light weight shell that the rest of the harness is built around. When compared to the Carbon Elite model, the Hex Core is slightly more flexible. For freestyle and unhooked riding, pair the Hex Core harness with our standard fixed-hook spreader bar. For surfing and general hooked-in freeriding, pair it with our metal or carbon slider bar.

2017 Ride Engine Hex Core Space Grape Harness Technology
